When is it safe to use your high beams?

Using high beams is appropriate when driving on open roads with no oncoming traffic because they provide greater visibility by illuminating the road further ahead. This is particularly beneficial in rural or less populated areas where streetlights may be scarce. High beams can enhance your ability to see potential hazards, such as animals or obstacles on the roadway, allowing for safer driving conditions.

In contrast, using high beams in foggy conditions can create glare and make visibility worse, as the light reflects off the moisture in the air. Similarly, in city driving, where there are streetlights and closer traffic, high beams can be overly distracting to other drivers and are not needed.
